Ajira Digital Program aims to create over 1 Million jobs online
The Kenyan Ministry of ICT has set up a new portal dubbed ‘Ajira Digital Program’ which seeks to bridge the gap between skills demand and lack of jobs.
Joe Mucheru, the Cabinet Secretary for ICT said that the program aims to introduce young people to online work and provide the tools, training and mentorship needed for them to work and earn an income.
The program targets youth between the ages of 18-35 across the country and is supported by the Ministry of Public Service, Youth and Gender Affairs, Education, Science and Technology, and Foreign affairs. Others are the civil society and the private sector.
Youths will be earning Sh2, 200 (USD 22) for every job they do and they will only be taxed at 5 per cent.
